Even though we’ve seen bright blue skies over the past few days, there’s no denying that it’s still absolutely baltic outside. I feel like I got way too excited for spring, buying wicker bags and sun dresses prematurely and now the weather gods are laughing like ‘lol, nope’.
So with this week’s weather forecast looking ever so cold and snowy, I thought now would be a good time to share a few tips on refreshing your workwear wardrobe and if you’re anything like me, how to resist the temptation to reach for the same jeans and jumper combo over and over again…

When it comes to work dressing, I’m extremely low maintenance. And by low maintenance what I really mean is lazy. I’m someone who packs my bag the night before then by morning, after I’m freshly showered at the gym, I’m unsurprised by my usual choice of Topshop plisse trousers and knit staring back at me from the bottom of my bag.
Working full time in an office, it’s easy to become a creature of habit and fall into the routine of wearing the same thing repeatedly. It’s like even though I love wearing clothes that make me feel confident and sassy, there’s also a part of me which feels like I don’t want to waste a good outfit being sat at a desk all day. Is that just me?
But as we all know by now, when you look good you feel good, right? And towards the end of last year I got sick of wearing the same baggy clothes to the office because not only did they not make me feel good, they made me feel frumpy. And just like Skepta once said, that’s not me. So lets crack on with a few tips shall we?
1. Pair polka dots with a chunky knit
The first step to ditching my stretchy, legging-type trousers was to find a combo that wasn’t completely out of my comfort and still very much me. If you’ve seen me over on insta or caught a few of my blog posts, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of the midi skirt. It will forever be the most flattering style on me and never fails to enhance my figure. So after a heavy session on Pinterest I realised that I had pinned the print and chunky knit combo multiples times – looks like we had a clear winner.
So I grabbed this skirt from Topshop about a month ago (I also got it in white) and paired it with my oversized andotherstories jumper which I bought a few months ago (sadly sold out now) and I fell in LOVE .
It’s comfortable, it’s stylish and more importantly, it’s weather-appropriate. Get in.
2. Invest in a work bag
I’ve always dismissed the idea that me and my Mum have the exact same style. When I was younger we would go shopping together and 9/10 end up arguing because we didn’t agree. But now I’m older, have the freedom to wear and buy what I want, when I show my Mum new purchases, 9/10 we’ve bought the same thing. Go figure.
Turns out, Radley has always been one of my Mum’s favourite brands. She had an obsession over Radley bags because of their Scottie dog logo. Which soon turned into a love for West Highland Terriers, which then lead us to get our dog Maximus. RIP the best dog EVER.
So I had to giggle to myself when my new Radley London tote bag fast became one of my favourite accessories; I am basically turning into my Mum.
And what I’m learning at the grand age of 29, is that actually Mum’s are always right; I need to invest in items that are classic and practical. And this bag is just that.
It’s perfect for work and wedding planning weekends, fits all my essentials and looks incredibly chic with any outfit.
3. Unconventional tights
I have Megan Ellaby to thank for this lil tip. Not only is she the connoisseur of colour clashing. But the way she styles patterned tights has me swooning every, damn time.
Seeing as we’re still in the colder months, not wearing tights just isn’t an option. But that also doesn’t mean we should be restricted to jeans and 40 denier’s eh? Why not grab that summer skirt that’s sitting in your wardrobe and jazz it up with some unconventional tights! I’m talking fishnets, sparkly socks and all things glittery, go wild.
I know the temptation to wear the closest thing to a duvet is real in this freezing cold weather. And I know we’re all guilty of wearing the same thing day in, day out for an easy life…But I hope a few of my tips helped any of you office huns out there who are struggling with what to wear to work. Any anybody who simply needed a little bit of inspo!
