If you haven’t heard of The Insecure Girls Club then I highly suggest you take a look and read up on this wonderful community of women ASAP. It was here that I had the opportunity to share my story on how I felt turning 30…
You see turning 30 for me was a weird one. With the year starting on an incredible high – getting married, travelling to the Maldives for our honeymoon and getting a new “dream” job – I thought I finally had life all figured out. Then long story short, I completely lost my way. After quitting a job I was miserable in, I spent most of my days moping around the house feeling like I had zero prospects and zero purpose. I was sad, anxious and truly believed that I was a failure. I mean you’re supposed to have it all together by the time you hit your thirties right? And what was I doing? Sat at home jobless, worrying about all the milestones I was yet to achieve. Well that all changed when I met Emma in the comments of post on The Insecure Girls Club instagram page.
Emma aka Turning 30 Coach specialises in helping women in their thirties navigate the ups and down of life and coaches women on how to make positive and lasting change in their life. Whether it’s setting or reaching new goals, learning new ways of thinking or controlling negative thought, Emma’s story spoke to me on a real, deep level.
Emma truly helped me to get out of what felt like an incredibly intense funk and for that, I am forever grateful. So for anyone feeling the same way and thinking of getting in touch with a life coach, here’s what I learnt…
- Watch the language you use to yourself. Try not to convince yourself that some actions are positive, when really it comes from a negative place.
- Stop putting your self-worth in the hands of other people’s opinions.
- Understand and practice the difference between aligned and un-aligned thoughts.
- You cannot control what other people think of you, so what’s the point in acting to please them?
- Stop mindlessly scrolling social media. Create new habits and more routines that bring joy.
- Learn to leave the past in the past. Focus on the present and the future. What would future Karina think?
- Learn to combat the indulgent feeling of “I don’t know” – this can mean that you’ve given up trying to think about it and you’re not willing to try.
- Visualise, manifest and plan your milestones. Then break it down into a daily plan.
- Put more energy into what makes you happy and what you love.
- Take the aspect of ‘competition’ and use it as fuel to concentrate on what I want to do with my life.
- When you are feeling blocked and in a negative headspace you aren’t allowing yourself to project forward and think of the future.
- You’re never stuck. You always have a choice.
- Realise that some situations are temporary and will eventually pass.
- Stop secluding yourself, it’s OK to be vulnerable.
- Plan dedicated time to yourself.
- My thought are not beyond my control. I have the ability to access my thoughts and change negative thought patterns.
- Stop people-pleasing, you are only doing them and yourself a disservice.
- Let go of what you thought your life would look like.
After numerous coaching sessions over four months, I can honestly say that meeting and working with Emma on her turning 30 programme was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. If you’d like to know more about Emma and the services she offers you can find her website here.
